  Brought from the south of Brazil (Gaucho cowboy country), the Brazilian 'churrasco' with its unique 'rodízio' service is a must in Rio. Its distinctive feature is the great variety of meats - generally over 20 different types and cuts, which are offered over and over again for a true all-you-can-eat' feast. Roasted over open pits of coal and served on individual skewers by circulating waiters, the meats are sliced directly onto one's plate, while the tables are constantly replenished with a variety of typical side dishes such as farofa (fried manioc flour), fried bananas, French fries and the famous cheese puffs. Rio offers a wide selection of these lively and friendly restaurants, which have become the meeting point of the Cariocas either for lunch or dinner. The churrascarias selected below are among the best in town, offering the rodízio style service as well as varied buffets of salads, seafood, sushi and other delicacies in a mouth watering display of cold and hot dishes. Strategically located on the waters edge of Guanabara Bay, offering scenic views with the dramatic backdrop of Sugar Loaf Mountain, this restaurant was designed by the world renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer, famous for his urban planning of Brazil’s capital - Brasília. Note: this is also a great venue for private group functions, with private rooms and very good outside areas.
